Attention

Man has to pay attention to 26 categories:

the 5 senses of action (Karmendriya);

the 5 senses of knowledge (Jnanendriya);

the 5 vital airs (Prana);

the 5 attributes of the elemental principles – smell (of Prithvi or earth); taste (of water); light (of fire); touch (of air); and

the remaining 4: manas (mind), buddhi (intellect), citta (differentiating consciousness) and ahamkara (individualistic consciousness, the ego).

The Jiva, the wave, is the 25th ; it has the 26th ; the Paramatma on one side and the 24th on the other. It has to illumine all the 24, and draw them all to the Reality, namely, the 26th category, the Paramatma. When they are illumined, they disappear, for they cannot survive Light; they are but creatures that are the progeny of Maya, Ignorance, Darkness. (SSS Vol.7, p. 393)

Man has to pay attention to three basic duties his quest for happiness. (i) He should forget what he has to forget, namely, the world around and its tantalising pleasures. (ii) He has to reach where he has to reach, namely, the goal of the Divine, the Presence of the Almighty and (iii) He has to give up what he has to give up, namely, material desires and pursuits. (SSS Vol.8, p. 161)
