The Lord is a servant of His devotees. He is the final authority everywhere, except in the presence of His devotee! The Lord’s powers are benign to His devotees and devastating to wicked people. Hanuman’s life signified the same idea. Hanuman was humble in front of Rama but bold and terrible to Ravana. Virtue, faultless behaviour, renunciation – all these are merely facets of devotion. (SSB 1995, p. 54)
If your loyalty is to your family, you are a servant of your family; if it is to God you are a servant to God. But, do not pay heed to the wages He gives. Try to be near God. Do not calculate the number of hours you have spent in serving Him and pine that He has not compensated you. Be ever in His service, that is to say, in doing good and in being good to all. (SV, p. 21)
Be a servant, a servant of God - then, all strength and joy will be added unto you. Try to be a master; then you will arouse envy, hatred, anger and greed in every one around you. Feel that you are instrument in His Hand; let Him shape you and use you as He knows best. (Sens.SS, p. 158)
