To serve the Motherland selflessly should be the sacred ideal of one’s life. (SV, p. 170)
You must be prepared to serve as servants, for all your lives. Never think of being a leader. Without becoming a servant you cannot become a leader. You must first learn to follow before becoming a leader. Because today people become leaders without knowing how to become good followers, we find the world in such an unfortunate state. In that context, you must be prepared to spend all your lives in the service of humanity. In the first instance, you must serve your own home, then you must serve your village, and then your state, and then the country. (SSB 1976, p. 4)
Divyatma swarupas, students! You should be prepared to do selfless service. You should never think of being served yourself by others. You have the strength of body, mind and spirit at this age and therefore you should do service to others right now. You should serve the old people, hungry people and the weak people. Such service should be regarded by you as service to God. (SSB 1973, p. 82)
Of what avail is it, if you simply worship My Name and Form without attempting to cultivate equal love for all. Serve others for they are the reflections of the same Entity of which you are yourself another reflection. No one of you has any authenticity, except with reference to the One Original. Feel always kinship with all creation. To realise the One, the Absolute which personalises itself into God and Creation there is no discipline more valuable and more effective than Seva. (Sens.SS, p. 28)
There are many ways to serve the world. You can serve just as actively by your serenity. Everyone need not do all things. If your being tends towards serenity and solitude, take it as the best. Only a small minority can delight in serenity and remain still. God has willed it so. Otherwise, how could the world function? If stillness is your destiny, dare to be so. Let each be as he is, remembering his Author, his Source and his Goal. (Uniq, p. 130)
