Incarnation

When decline descends on the Dharma which has been laid down, I incarnate as the Narakara from the state of Nirakara, in order to revive it and protect it and save the Good from fear’ said Krishna. (GV, p. 56)

The Incarnation comes to warn, to guide, to awaken, to lay down the path, and shed the light of Love on it. But man has to listen, learn and obey with hope and faith. (SSS Vol.8, p. 143)

What does incarnating mean? It is God appearing on earth Filled with affection and love for mankind, everywhere – Divine Consciousness in human form. (SSS Vol.11, p. 272)

I incarnate from age to age, time to time, to save dharma from anti-dharma. Whenever strife, discord and disharmany overwhelm the world, God incarnates in human form to show to mankind the way to love, harmony and peace. (S&M, p. 236)

The ways of the Divine should be properly understood. God exists not for one nation or one community. God incarnates on earth for the benefit of all mankind. (SSS Vol.29, p. 186)

As Rama and Krishna were born with human bodies, people entertained the wrong notion that they died in ordinary way. Rama and Krishna did not shed their bodies in the human way. Rama stepped into river Sarayu and vanished. He had earlier sent Sita away. Similarly, Krishna went to Dwaraka. Uddhava saw Krishna sitting under a tree, and then Krishna suddenly disappeared. The bodies of divine incarnations will not fall in the hands of mortals. You must earn the capacity to understand Divinity. (SSB 2002, p. 49)

God incarnates not merely for the destruction of the wicked. That is just the obvious reason which is but an excuse. God, in truth, incarnates for the sake of His faithful devotees. The cow has milk primarily as sustenance for its calf but it also used by man. So too God primarily incarnates for sustenance of the faithful, the virtuous, the good. But even the faithless, the bad, use the chance for their own purpose. (NNSG Vol.5, p. 6)

A sculptor takes up a rough stone and by means of chiselling and hammering; he converts it into a model or idol of a deity fit for worship by men and women. Similarly, the sadguru or incarnation helps people of various kinds of become ideal persons by getting rid of their undesirable qualities by means of suitable sadhana (spiritual discipline) and samskarana (transmutation), just as the sculptor brings out into view the latent idol in a boulder, the avatar addresses all of you as divyatma swarupas, embodiments of the divine atma, and enables to make the divinity lying latent in each of you. (NNSG Vol.5, pp. 13-14)

God transcends names, forms and attributes. He is infinite and not limited to a particular form. Once Sage Narada and a few other sages prayed to Lord Narayana to incarnate in human form and redeem mankind. Lord Narayana said, ‘Narada, Brahma Shakti (Divine power) is positive. It is not possible for Brahma Shakti to incarnate on earth unless it is coupled with negative power. It is only when positive and negative combine that Divinity manifests in human form.’

In response to the prayers of sages and seers, God comes down in human for. He strives for the welfare of humanity and bestows joy on one and all. The Avatar is a manifestation of Brahma Swarupa and Manavatva (humanness). The same principle of Brahman is latest in all. One has to develop inward vision in order to experience Him. Ishvara Sarva Bhutanam (God is the In-dweller of all beings). In this cosmic drama, God alone is the director and also the actor. He is donning all the roles such as mother, father, husband, wife, daughter, son, etc. Someone says, ‘I have been blessed with a grandson today. The grandson is a manifestation of Brahman. Brahman alone various names and forms in this world. When God incarnate on earth, He has to assume the form of Jiva. The principles of Daivatva (Divinity) and Jivatva (individual) are inseparable. You cannot find one to the exclusion of the other. Divinity has no specific form. Only the Jiva has a name and a form but not Deva. He is present in all. In fact, each one of you see around is also the manifestation of God. Even the small birds that you see here are endowed with the principle of divinity. There is no place which is not pervaded with divinity. There is no form which is not Divine. However, God assumes a particular form based on the feelings of His devotees. (DD on 19.11.05 , pp. 2-3)

For the protection of the virtuous, for the destruction of evil-doers, and for the establishment of righteousness on a form footing, I incarnate from age to age. Whenever disharmony overwhelms the world, the Lord will incarnate in human form to establish the modes of earning peace and earning peace and to re-educate the human community in the paths of peace. The Lord has been anxiously awaited by the saints and sages. Sadhus (holy men) have prayed, and I have come. (WLMG, p. 313)

Krishna was not the titular deity of Brahmins. Nor did he belong to Kshatriyas. He was not the Lord of the Vaishyas. He was an incarnation, who appeared for the protection of the world. To claim that Krishna belonged to one or other the group is only an index of petty possessiveness. Because the Yadavas boasted that Krisha belonged to their community, they ultimately destroyed themselves. (SSS Vol.19, pp. 185-186)
