Greed

Greed is the monstrous evil that drags man down. (SSS Vol.7, p. 176)

Man becomes a slave to money while trying to earn more ; and in the process, he lives a wasteful life. Greed for money should be removed from you. However much you earn, one day you have to leave all that and go. Why should you crave do much when this is the case. (A compendium of the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba, p.227)

Avarice is nothing but insatiable desire and lack of self-discipline. It makes man greedy. When the longing for material pleasures reaches its zenith, man thoughtlessly employs immoral means to achieve his ends. Thus, in the long run, he ruins not only himself but also pollutes the society. Today we find that corruption and accumulation of black money has taken its root everywhere. The so-called aristocratic class, big business tycoons and multi-millionaires try to acquire money through wrong and illegal means. When they are caught in the trap of income-tax officers they find their prestige and honour at stake. (SS Aug 93 , p. 218)

Embodiments of Love! So long as a man is puffed up with pride, none, not even his wife and children will love him. One should shed his ego and arrogance, if he wants to be loved, by others. One has to suffer grief and misery as long as he is prone to anger. It is only when he gives up anger he can be happy. So long as one goes on multiplying his desires, he will continue to be in want. When he controls his desires, man attains prosperity. Greed makes a man unhappy and miserable. Only when greed and miserliness are given up can one have an enjoyable and peaceful life. (SSS Vol.30)
