Win

Dharma has to win. Victory is the inevitable concomitant of righteousness. In the preliminary stages of struggle, it may create some fear and some obstacles, which might appear formidable. It will cause even weakness of mind. It might arouse suspicions of defeat or failure. But instead of bowing or bending before it, one has to fix his attention on the goal itself. Then it can never fail. Failure can never affect it. Men do not peer deep into the truth of Dharma’s might; they are carried away by superficial handicaps and worries and so they give up the path and suffer. (RKRV Part I, p. 126)

Jnana can be won only from and through elders who have experienced the Absolute. You have to serve them and win their love. (GV, p. 88)

Command the mind; regulate your conduct so that the goal is won. Let not the care of the body or the fostering of the family or the demands of pride and pomp overwhelm the call of the spirit for self-expression.Shiva, Jiva and Prakriti have to be utilised by the Jiva, or the individual, to attain Shiva, which is the fundamental fact in both. Until you get Atmanandam, by realising Shiva, the world, or Prakriti, will press on you with its weight and well-nigh suffocate you. After, the world will fall off, of itself. (SSS Vol.2, p. 194)

Today, though in outward appearance people are human, in inner impulse they are really subhuman, or Rakshasas. He who has no Dana, or charity, in him is called a Danava or Demon. Deva and Danava are mixed in the human make-up and now the demon rules. Therefore, man has lost his glory and his power and splendour; he must win them again by Sadhana. So, make yourselves pure by incessant striving. (SSS Vol.2, p. 13)

Prahlada also spoke of this inner fight to his father, the powerful demon king,Hiranyakashipu. He said, ‘Father, you have won many wars and have gained lordship over numerous worlds, but you have not been able to win a victory over your own senses. By winning all the worlds outside you have become a powerful king, but only when you control your own senses will you be king of the whole universe: If you keep being defeated by your inner senses, how can you ever win a-lasting victory against your enemies outside? When you win over inner enemies then you can easily win over the external ones, also’. When is this possible? Only when you surrender yourself to the divinity. You say, ‘my objects’, ‘myself’, ‘my people’; as long as you have such feelings it will not be possible for you to surrender. (DBG, p. 23)
