If faith is full and perfect, then Grace comes fully at that very moment -just as sound and the bullet occur at the same moment. (CWBSSB, p. 33)
One sees a plane in the sky. He cannot see the pilot, but he knows there is a pilot. To see the pilot, he must buy a ticket. The Universe also has a Pilot. He is God. To see Him, the ticket is His Grace. This can be won by sadhana of the various types. Underlying all sadhana is love. The reality of all Sadhana is love. Without love, no sadhana has any value. To win God’s Grace, faith is necessary. Without love, there cannot be faith. That love is in the heart and arises spontaneously there from. Love is God. That love which fills the heart is Swami, who is the resident of the heart. (CWBSSB, p. 35)
The Grace of the Lord will overwhelm all obstacles and the fruit of sadhana will be vouchsafed. Once you secure the Grace, you can fulfil all your wishes with it. It is the Grace that gives value to life. (SSS Vol.3, p. 173)
The most revered and the most popular Mantra (prayer) in the Vedas is the Gayatri; it seeks the grace of the Source of all Light, to foster one’s intelligence and for nothing more! (SSS Vol.7, p. 7)
When one has Grace of the Lord, the Guru becomes very often superfluous; he makes everything known. (JV, p. 60)
Parents and teachers can earn My Grace only by becoming good and worthy examples to their sons and daughters or their wards and students. You claim to have devotion to Me; but you must examine and discover whether I am pleased with you. You must examine yourselves every moment whether you are observing the disciplines I have laid down, the programmes of service I have marked out. That is the way to earn my Love. Love others and serve them; then you can win My Love. (SSS Vol.9, p. 80)
Whatever the name and form that first gave you contentment, hold fast to them without swerving. They will get implanted in the heart, without fail. Afterwards, everything will happen through his Grace. Hold fast to the reins, the Mamma! Within a short time, your speech and you thoughts will come under your own grip. (DhyV, pp. 39-40)
‘Dill me Ram! Hath me Kam!’ Ram in the heart! Task in the hand! Proceed, in that spirit. God’s Grace will be showered on you, in full measure. (SSS Vol.7, p. 185)
To the extent to which you enthusiastically intensify and quicken up this process to give and take to that extent you will be successful and happy. Deliver all your anxieties, troubles, travails and desires to me. During this Advent, only spiritual aspirants and righteous persons are relatives, friends and recipients of My Grace. (Bhag Vahini, p. 186)
When you have to thread a needle, you have to be intent on the job and the end of the thread has to be kept straight and pointed, is it not? Similarly, to enter the Grace of God, which is subtler than the subtlest, the mind has to the steady and the eye and the senses have to be concentrated on the same process. (Bhag Vahini, p. 304)
My Grace is proportional to your effort. Try to win Grace by reforming your habits, reducing your desires and refining your higher nature. One step makes the next step easier; that is the excellence of spiritual journey. With each step, your strength and confidence increase and your bigger and bigger instalments of Grace.
Now a fashion is spreading in conversation, Oh ‘this all God’s Grace when something you consider good happens to you. If it happens to somebody you don’t like, it is not God’s Grace, evidently for God is specially yours and not the other fellows’. When something you dislike happens to you, why don’t you take that also to be a sign of God’s Grace? Resign yourself into God’s Hands; let Him give success or failure, what does it matter? He may be bent on toughening you or it may be for your good in the long run.
Grace is showered on those who seek. Knock and the door shall be opened to you; ask and food will be served; search and the treasure will be yours. The Grace of God cannot be won through the gymnasium of reason, the contortions of Yoga or denials of asceticism. Love alone can win it, Love that needs no requital, Love that knows no bargaining, Love that is unwavering, Love alone can overcome obstacles, however many and mighty.
My Grace is ever with you; it is not something that is given or taken; it is given always. But it is accepted only when the Consciousness is aware of its significance. Win the Grace of your own sub-conscious, so that it may accept the Grace of God which is ever available. God does not deny anyone; it is you who deny God. When the gift is conferred you have to do and little act so that you may earn you have to extend your hand to receive it. That is the sign of the Grace of the sub-conscious.
Win by teaching it, the value of the Grace of God. Give Me the reins; trust in Me and be directed by Me. I shall take fulI responsibility. Only you must accept without demur whatever comes as Prasadam or Grace. (GA, pp. 228-231)
Divine Grace (Anugraha) plants the seed of Faith in Man; seed which when it blossoms, liberates him from Greed, Hate and Fear. (Div, p. Inside Cover )
God’s Grace is the right of all, but it can be won by sadhana only. I have no hate or anger in My composition; My Life-blood is Prema, I am the repository of daya. Understand Me and My Nature right. (SSS Vol.2, p. 99)
To earn the goodwill of the Master, there is one recipe: obey His orders without murmur. Grace is showered on all who obey instructions and follow orders. (SSS Vol.2, p. 195)
Grace is showered on those who seek, knock and the door shall be opened; ask, and food will be served; search and the treasure will be yours. (SSS Vol.7, p. 112)
God’s grace is the shower of rain, as the sunlight. You have to do some sadhana to acquire it; the sadhana of keeping a pot upright to receive the rain, the sadhana of opening the door of your heart so that the sun may illumine it. (SSS Vol. 6, p. 151)
Water flows from a higher level to the lower levels. God’s Grace too is like that. It flows down to those who are bent with humility. (SSS Vol.8, p. 177)
I have no special band of Grace for those who are at My door, nor do I neglect the man at My gate. In fact, I have no geographical ‘far’ and ‘near’. My ‘far’ and ‘near’ are not calculated by physical nearness. You may be by My side, yet far, you may be far, far away, yet very near and dear. (NNSG Vol.1, p. 86)
Your progress is reflected back as grace, your decline is reflected back as its absence. The mirror just reflects. It has no partiality or prejudice. (SV90, p. 122)
Grace is always there; it neither comes nor goes. You have to tap it with effort. (SS Jul 88 , p. 185)
The grace of God can only be earned by Sat Karma (good deeds). Sat chintana (good thoughts), Sat bhava (good attitudes), Satsanga (good company), and namasmaran (constant repetition of the name of God). (DG, p. 183)
You may say that progress is possible only through My Grace, but though My Heart is soft as butter. It melts when there is some warmth in your prayer. Unless you make some disciplined effort, some Sadhana, Grace cannot descend on you. The yearning, the agony of unfulfilled aims that is the warmth that melts My Heart. That is the anguish that wins Grace. (MBI, p. 39)
There is no need for me to command invisible spirits since my own divine will materializes the object. I am everything everywhere; omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent; and so whatever I will instantly happens. Like the qualities of truth, love and peace, these are things that generate the atomic (godly) or cosmic forces behind the universe. This is the grace begotten of my love for them reciprocated by their devotion. After all, as I repeatedly say, we all belong to the same divine principle. The godliness which is present in everybody in the form of a little spark exists in me as the full flame, and it is my mission to develop, every little spark of God in everyone to the fullness of the divine flame.
The first imperative of this development is that the receiver of the grace also provides from his or her side the devotion necessary to the consummation. Those who carry the presence of Baba in their hearts like an in-dwelling God belong to these kinds of devotees. They come to me, see me, and hear me, experience my love for them and receive it with devotion. Thus, they become part of me and my divinity.
To the doubting or confused ones, I give this illustration. Those who want to secure pearls from the sea have to dive deep to fetch them. It does not help them to dabble among the shallow waves near the shore and say that the sea has no pearls and all stories about them are false. Likewise, if a person wants to secure the love and grace of this Avatar, he must also dive deep and get submerged in said Baba. Then, only will he become one with me and carry me in his innermost heart. (S&M, pp. 243-2244)
Grace of the Lord does not depend upon the number of times that you have repeated his name. Do not therefore count the name and the number of times you have repeated it. For whom are you going to impress with the numbers. The Lord will respond even if you call him once from the depths of your feelings. He will turn a deaf ear even if you call him a million times, mechanically, artificially only with the tongue not with the heart nor with the concentration, it is easy to amass and manipulate figures, but grace does not depend upon them all. The Lord asks for the heart, the full heart and nothing but the heart. God’s grace is for him who has developed a mountain of patience and prays to him only for devotion and nothing else. (DM, p. 106)
The string is the bond of Love and Grace. The Kite or Jiva is thus bound to Ishvara. You must do and earn auspicious Smackers in order that the bond of Love and Grace may exist and get tightened. (Prema Vahini, p. 31)
Faith in God is the guarantee of victory. Tyagaraja said ‘Oh Rama, if I have the benefit of your grace (anugraha) all the nine planets (theNavagraha) will be subject to me’. Hence if we acquire God’s love, we can achieve anything in life. Love is the one all-pervading element. Everyone has to strive to make that love the basis of his life. (D3 , p. 55)
(D3 -p. 55)
You might say that the karma of the previous birth has to be consumed in this birth and that no amount of grace can save man from that. Evidently, some one has taught you to believe so. But I assure you, you need not suffer from karma like that. When a severe pain torments you, the doctor gives you a morphine injection and you do not feel the pain, though it is there in the body. Grace is like the morphine, the pain is not felt, though you go through it. Grace takes away the malignity of the karma which you have to undergo: you know there are dated drugs, which are declared ineffective after a certain date: well, the effect of karma is rendered null, though the account of karma is there and has to be rendered of, the Lord can save a man completely from the consequences, as was done by Me to the bate whose paralytic stroke and heart attacks I took over, some months ago, in the Guru purnima week! It is wrong to say that ‘Lalata likhitam’ cannot be wiped out: that what one has earned in previous births must be consumed in this birth. Grace can countermand all that: nothing can stand in its way. It is the grace of the ‘Almighty’, remember. ( SS Aug 92, p. 179)
All beings are images of God; all men are his pictures; all beings are existing as a result of his will, in accordance with his plan, so there can be no one beyond his grace. (Kundra, p. A15)
All beings are Images of God. All men are His pictures. All beings are existing as a result of His Will, in accordance with His Plan, so there can be no one beyond His Grace. (LS, p. 24)
‘Keep smiling yourself and make others smile. Why make a sad world sadder by your desperate counsel - Your lamentation and your suffering? Overcome your own sorrow and plunge in the cool waves of the sea of the Grace Of The Lord.’ (LS, p. 85)
Resolve that relying on His Grace, you shall be free from illness from this moment. Transfer the faith you have in drugs to God; put your trust not in medicine, but in Madhava. Resort to prayer, Japam and Dhyanam. They are the vitamins you need. They will restore you. No tablet is as efficacious as Rama nama. I shall give you Vibhuti and that will cure you. The hospital is for those who have faith in drugs and doctor. But, what can drugs and doctors do without the Grace of God? The day will surely come when the hospital will be superfluous, since all will be healthy and free from illness, accepting the Sadhana way, the ananda way to Peace and Happiness. (LS, p. 995)
Every act must be regarded as an offering to the Divine. It may not be easy to develop such an attitude. But if the effort is made sincerely, it can be achieved. It does not call for abandonment of hearth and home or giving up your wealth and position. What I ask from you is to devote at least half an hour in a day of twenty-four hours to service. Is this beyond your capacity? If you can serve the government or some one else for eight hours a day for the money you earn from them, experiencing in the process many trails and difficulties, can’t you devote some time to win the grace of God, the benefit from which is immeasurable? What you earn through the grace of God, will confer on you enduring benefits greater than the wealth you earn by other means. The grace of God is like insurance. It will help you in your time of need without any limit. Material wealth confers Bhoga (enjoyment) which leads to Roga (illness). But selfless service is Yoga, which secures Divine grace. (SSS Vol.17, p. 85)
Thanks to the Lord’s Grace you young people have come to Swami. You may not appreciate all that I have said at this age of yours. But you will realise the truth of Swami’s words in due course. You have been fortunate to secure something, which few others have got. You are discarding it lightly. You are slighting Swami’s injunctions. You do not heed the words of Swami.
‘People do not listen to words of the wise,
But easily fall a prey to bad advice.
Such people, how can they hope to understand Swami?
Of what use is all their education?’ (Telugu poem).
They will not listen to good advice. But bad talk they will listen with both ears! How can they expect to know Bhagavan? Can an ant fathom the depths of the ocean? Likewise you cannot cognise the truth about Swami? But you can make good use of the opportunity that has come your way. ‘Sai has come to you because of your great merit. Arise! Wake up!’ (SS May 96, p. 119)
You might say that the karma of the previous birth has to be consumed in this birth and that no amount of grace can save man from that. Evidently, some one has taught you to believe so. But I assure you; you need not suffer from karma like that. When a severe pain torments you, the doctor gives you a morphine injection and you do not feel the pain, though it is there in the body. Grace is like morphine, the pain is not felt, though you go through it. (SSS Vol.29, p. 372)
Grace takes away the malignity of the karma which you have to undergo; you know there are dated drugs, which are declared ineffective after a certain date; well, the effect of karma is rendered null, though the account of karma is there and has to be rendered or, the Lord can save a man completely from the consequences, as was done by Me to the bhakta whose paralytic stroke and heart attacks I took over, some months ago, in the Guru purnima week. (SSS Vol.29, p. 399)
You are stranded in the mire of ignorance. God stretches His hand towards you in order to rescue you. This is grace. But in turn you have also to stretch your hand and exert to move in His direction and not in the opposite direction. This is self-effort.
You are sailing in a ship in the sea of Samsara. The wind of Divine grace is blowing always. But if you want to speed up your journey by taking advantage of the wind, you must unfurl your sails from the mast of your ship. This is self-effort.
Divine grace is all around you, just like air. But if you want to have the benefit of a breeze, you should have a fan and move it back and forth in the air around you. This is self-effort. Rain is like Divine grace. But only a ploughed field absorbs the rainwater and produces a successful crop. Similarly by your self-effort you must till the field of your heart with the plough of Sadhana and sow the seeds called good qualities in order to take advantage of the rain of Divine grace.
Water is flowing from the tap. This is grace. You must keep your pot with its mouth upward, right below the tap so that the pot may be filled with water. This is self-effort.
The sunlight of grace is all around you. But you must open the window of your heart to get the benefit of the sunlight. This is self-effort.
Fertility and capacity of the earth to sustain crops is like Divine grace. It is always there. Ploughing the soil, sowing seeds and other agricultural operations are comparable to self-effort for taking advantage of the Divine grace called soil-fertility.
Grace is like the electricity available in your house. To get the benefit of light, you must make the self-effort of putting on the switch. Sound waves in the form of music and songs are always in the atmosphere. This is comparable to divine grace. But if you want to hear the music and songs, you have to tune the radio. So also you have to tune your mind and heart appropriately in order to derive the benefit of grace.
Grace is like a magnet that attracts. You are like the rusted iron piece which is not attracted by the magnet. So by self-effort remove the rust of impurity from your mind and heart, so that you may be drawn towards the magnet of grace.
Grace is like the Powerhouse. If you want to bring the power from the Powerhouse to your residence to illumine your place, you have to put up poles at regular intervals and connect the house with the Powerhouse by cables. So too, if you want to win the Grace of God, do spiritual exercises (Sadhana) at regular timings and connect yourself with God by the cable of the repetition of the Name.
Grace is invisible like butter in fresh milk. Sadhana is like obtaining the butter of Grace after boiling the milk, cooling it to optimum temperature, adding a starter culture, allowing it to become curd and churning it (etc.). (Uniq, pp. 144-146)
Each one will secure (from Me) what is proportionate to what one has renounced, however long or however near he might be with Me. Ticks attach themselves to the cow’s udder full of sweet, nourishment . But they secure only the blood, not the milk. The calf which comes skipping from afar drinks the milk. Be like the calves, children of God seeking Grace; do not become ticks that cling close but do not long for the milk (of Grace). Near, nearer, nearest – that does not help. Become dear, dearer, dearest – that is the proper Sadhana. (Also be like the bee, not the frog). (NNSG Vol.3, p. 94)
What other task have I than the showering of Grace? By darshana, sparshana and sambhashana (seeing, touching and conversing, you share in that Grace. When that melts and this melts, the two can merge. Treat Me not as one afar, but as very close to you. Insist, demand, claim Grace from Me; do not praise, extol and cringe. Bring your hearts to Me and win My Heart. Not one of you is a stranger to Me. Bring your promises to me and I shall give you My Promise. But first see that your promise is genuine, sincere; see that your heart is pure; that is enough. (SSS Vol.2)
