Ceiling

‘Do not waste precious time and life on impermanent pleasures’. Have some control, a ceiling on your desires. Limit your expenditure only to what is essential for good living and utilize the money so saved for the service of the poor in the villages or slum areas. How often do we waste money, even with the best of intentions? See here (pointing out to the big garland offered to Him). This garland must have cost about Rs.30/-. I don’t need it. Do not bring such garlands in future. How much money is being spent on decorating this floor with floral designs all around? Do not waste your money on them. Only one flower is enough to convey your love. Utilise the money to instead serve the poor as the Lord in that form, the Daridra Narayana. The rich can similarly cut down superfluous desire by having less number of servants, avoiding luxurious travels, giving up wasteful habits of going to Clubs and cinemas, or indulging in drinks and playing cards. Such ceiling on desires can do substantial good to oneself as also to society’. (Shah I. , pp. 158-159)
