Beginning

That which has no origin knows no beginning. It was before everything or anything was. There was nothing prior to it. For that reason, it has no end. (V Vahini, p. 1)

Prema cannot be cultivated by reading guidebooks and made-easies and learning the steps by rote. It has to begin with a great yearning for the Light, an unbearable agony to escape from Darkness, as in the prayer ‘Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya’. (SSS Vol.2, p. 6)

One cannot discover the beginnings of the Lord, the Universe, the Living Being, Activity and Ignorance; they are all Beyond the Beginning. In the Bhagavad Gita , Krishna declares, ‘gahana karmano gatih’ (the way of action is elusively subtle and difficult to discover). The consequence might confront the person, even after the passage of many lives. The Lord is the eternal Witness, the Power that presides over every act. Looked at from this point of view, one has to realise and declare that the Lord and the Individual are bound inextricably together. (SV, p. 156)
