Television

Where it ennobles men, it is television; otherwise it is ‘tele-visham’ (tele-poison). In the attempt to attract numbers even good instruments can turn into poisonous prawns. (BSS, p. 66)

Apart from educational programmes, do not look at television at all, specially while taking food. Concentrate on the work at hand, whether it be eating or anything else. (SSS Vol.29)

The younger generation is being ruined by undesirable films and television programmes. Their minds are being poisoned. It is not a sign of parental love to let children be ruined in this manner. Even parents should avoid going to cinemas. All crimes and violence we witness today are largely the result of the evil influence of films in young minds. From the moment television made its appearance the mind of man has been polluted. Before the advent of television, man s minds were not so much polluted. Acts of violence were not so rampant previously.

There is not what is called Star TV . It is doing great harm to human life. The temporary satisfaction given by it is followed by lasting damage. It is like a sword coated with honey. As you lick the honey, the sword will cut your tongue. Television or tele poison? Do not see trash or see foul films. (SSP, p.165)

Concentration on the television affects one’s view of the world. The scenes, thoughts and actions displayed on the TVs fill the mind of the viewers. Unknowingly, agitations and ill feelings, enter their minds. In due course they take root and grow in the minds. (SSP, p.166)

Television or Telepoison? Do not read trash or see foul films. (SSP, p.167)

Avoid films, for they may be advertised as very educative and inspiring. The producers in their greed for profit smuggle in low debasing scenes in order to please raw untrained minds.  (SSP, p.177)

If television is used for teaching good things, it can serve a worthy purpose. But this is not the case. The younger generation is being ruined by undesirable films and television programmes. Their minds are being poisoned. It is not a sign of parental love to let children be ruined in this manner. Even parents should avoid going to cinemas. All the crimes and violence today are largely the result of the evil influence of films on young minds. (SSP, p.185)
