Gandhi had called upon Indian people to use the goods made in India. He asked everyone to discard foreign goods. If we start using foreign goods we will depend more upon foreign countries only and become slaves to them. In order to achieve freedom, he resorted to the Swadeshi movement. Not only independence but also Swarajya was the essence of asking people to use only goods made in India. What are Swadeshi goods? Atman is the Swadeshi good whereas, all the rest like mind, body etc. are foreign goods. They are all materials, which are mortal. You have to follow the Sva and not the foreign concept comprising of body and mind.

Hence concentrate your mind on these ideals and follow your Atma. ‘The future of any country depends on the ideals and morality of its citizens. Oh! Courageous sons of this country, listen! A country without morality is not a country at all.’ So I expect you students to follow these ideals and bring laurels to our country. (M, p. 21)
