Early morning, noon, evening; conjunction of time periods. (Glossary for the Vahinis)
Sandhya is a period when two different times join together. Sandhya refers to the moment, which comes in between day and night, or the moment, which comes in between any coming together and separating apart again. At this point of Sandy, you are simultaneously in both joy and sorrow. But you will not remain there for long; either you move on and fully enter into joy or you fall into sorrow. Of course, you aspire only for joy and not for sorrow. Wisdom is the path, which helps you to remain in eternal joy. The Samkhya Yoga teaches the way to eternal joy through detachment and love for divinity. In the Gita chapter on Samkhya Yoga, you will find two words used, Rishikesha and Gudakesha. Rishikesha refers to the master of the sense organs, and Gudakesha refers to the one who has learned to control his sense organs. Krishna is the master of the senses and Arjuna has been able to gain control over his senses. But at the beginning, Arjuna was steeped in body-consciousness and was not in control, at all. Sandhya is not merely the ritual performed at the time of confluence of day and night. San + Dhya (Intense Contemplation). (Uniq, p. 177)
