Indian Culture

In our culture, an important aspect is recognizing the individuality of a person. The second aspect is developing the society. The third aspect is experiencing Divinity. The fourth is living in unity. Integrating these four aspects is Indian Culture. Therefore if we want to develop Indian culture, recognizes individuality, foster nationality, recognize Divinity and live in unity. This is Indian culture, which has 5 life breaths.

Hindu has five letters standing for:

H - istory

I - ndividuality

N - ationality

D - ivinity

U – nity

Integration of these is Indian culture. The world can enjoy culture if it observes these five principles in day-to-day life while carrying out its duties. Indian culture has no limits. It is infinite in form. Its nature is to consider others’ difficulties as its own. For such a broad heart, there are no limits. (M, pp. 139-140)

Indian culture, as you have learnt at this Summer camp (Summer Course) from distinguished exponents, never encourages the use of force for effecting changes in law or social conditions or people’s attitudes. Mahatma Gandhi directed the movement for Indian Independence along spiritual lines with emphasis on non-violence and truth; he drew courage and confidence, and communicated both to the people, from Namasmarana, the recitation and reflection on the Name of God. He cleansed the heart of the nation, of hatred and envy, of fear and doubt. He stuck to the ideal and the path; you too should do the same. (SS June 02 , p. 179)
