Codes of law and ethics concerning virtuous living. (Glossary for the Vahinis)
The DharmaShastra (codes of Dharma), were first expounded and fostered by Manu. He is the author of ManuDharmaShastraand is considered the father of Mankind.
People must follow the path of Dharma as laid down by the DharmaShastra. The present DharmaShastra is a combination of Bhrigusmriti and Manusmriti. It lays down rules for individuals, family, society and nation. There are two types of Dharma – Atma-dharma and Samaja-dharma. The former is permanent and changeless. The latter keeps on changing from time to time and place to place. One which keeps changing is not true love. True love is ever the same.(M, p. 44)
